FBI cites thousands of hate crimes in ‘08

(CNN) — More than 9,000 hate crime offenses — more than half of them motivated by racial bias — were reported last year, the FBI announced Monday.The agency compiled reports of 7,783 criminal incidents involving 9,168 offenses “as a result of bias toward a particular race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity/national origin or disability.
